Just returned from a course with Tim Albert . Very interesting. Lots of training already booked in for 2011/2012. More news soon!

For the last couple of months, I have been hard at work as Guest Editor for the
upcoming issue of The Write Stuff . This themed issue on authorship covers topics ranging from the involvement of medical writers in peer-reviewed articles (including
the sticky subject of review articles) to facilitation of writing based on an understanding
of the writing process. I have been lucky enough to work with some fantastic authors,
all experts in their fields, and to gain an insight into the effort involved in putting together a journal issue on time. This is the first time I have guest edited a journal, and I can only say I have the greatest respect for the Editor, Elise Langdon-Neuner, who manages to do this in her spare time for four issues a year! It has been a fantastic experience and
I hope that readers of TWS will enjoy the result.

I have recently begun some interesting training projects in which authors can develop their academic writing skills while working on a real manuscript that they intend to submit for publication. I am very excited by this, as it is an ideal solution for many
authors who would like to improve their own writing while also increasing their chances of publication in the short term. In addition, I am working with a colleague of mine,
Anne Murray , on the translation of a book on wine biotechnology. As most of my translation work focuses on research articles and bilingual journal projects, I am
looking forward to the different challenges presented by a book translation.

In another of the articles published in this issue of TWS, John Rodgers explores the nature and purpose of citation. This area of academic writing is too often overlooked,
and I am delighted that John agreed to write this important and erudite piece for TWS. This brings me to my next project. In May I will be off to Lisbon to attend the 30th EMWA Conference , where I will be running a workshop on the effective use of citation in medical writing. This is going to be a new workshop and complements the Righting Citing workshop that has now been running successfully for Mediterranean Editors and Translators for a number of years. I am quite excited! Perhaps I will see some of you there....

It has been a busy few weeks. First there was the annual meeting of Mediterranean Editors and Translators (METM09) in Barcelona, where I ran another successful edition of the Righting Citing workshop and chaired a panel on the range of writing support services available for academic authors. Then it was home to Valencia for a few days before heading off to the autumn meeting of the European Medical Writers Association
in Frankfurt. In the meantime, Greg Morley and I have written an article on bilingual publication that will appear in the next issue of The Write Stuff , and I am in the process of editing a themed issue of TWS on authorship, to come out in 2010.
Of course, I have also been finding time to work with various clients on an interesting range of topics, from regenerative medicine to virology! An embarrassment of riches....
